Preseason Coaches Poll Released
The 2009 Preseason USA Today Coaches Poll has been released. You can see the poll on my site by checking out the new Top 25 page that will have the top 25 polls throughout the season, as well as my own personal top 25. Here are my overall impressions from the preseason coaches poll.
Overrated
6. Ohio State – They ended the season last year ranked #11 and they lost all their best players. I don’t see how they move up in that scenario.
9. LSU – They were not very good last year. They will improve but I don’t think they are top 10.
18. Utah – Still riding the wave from their BCS win over Alabama. They are not as good this year and they will fall.
20. North Carolina – Without Hakeem Nicks I don’t think they hold it together.
Underrated
8. Penn State – I expected Penn State a few slots higher. I think they are the team to beat in the Big Ten.
10. Mississippi – Don’t be alarmed if Mississippi makes it to the SEC Championship game.
23. Notre Dame – While not at the level they were at a couple of years ago, Notre Dame will win nine games and play in the BCS.
NR. Illinois – With a senior quarterback in Juice Williams I expected Illinois to crack the top 25.

Actually, I’ve heard a lot of people proclaiming UNC to be EVEN BETTER than they are ranked right now. Looks like the pollsters are hedging their bets.
I would agree with Ohio State, but the way their schedule is shaping up, I don’t see anyone giving them too much trouble after USC. If they lose to PSU, they will still be 10-2, which will probably be good enough to win the conference, or at least a share of it.
